If you have a choice of boiling the food you're gonna cook or to fry it, go for boiling it.
Now I'm not talking about fries or hambugers (which doesn't taste very good boiled!) but instead of fish filets and chicken filets (and likes).
Frying food always changes the molecules in food to the worse - just like microwave owens does - even if you fry it lightly or heavily. Nutrition gets lost, or the food becomes unnatural (as to what it was "designed").
I always boil my organic chicken filets (20-25 minutes) that I'm eating and they can be quite tasty when the right herbs and spices are used. Boiled chicken filets are also perfect for salads!
Do you boil or fry your chicken?

Leo, its been while since I fried something, but then once in a while I sin eating fried food from fast food restaurants, lol, but not much. Anna :) PS great post as always.
Anna,
Same here! It's Ok to sin once in a while! ;)
Thanks for sharing, as always. :)
I have recently started boiling my vegetables more (rather than stir frying or roasting). I find that it took a while to get used to, but now I really enjoy them.
Hi Leo,
I like to boil my chicken, grill and also bake it. Even though, I'm sure boiling it is probably more healthier. I must admit Kentucky Fried Chicken taste pretty good, every once in a while. Nice post and thanks for sharing it with us. Take care! :-)
Rachel,
Yes you're right, it does take time to get used to changing from one thing to another. But as you wrote, one gets used to it.
Robin,
KFC every now and then is a must! I believe that the key to stay healthy is to not deprive yourself of food - but to eat less of the unhealthy and more of the healthy.
Thanks for your input!
Boiling causes losses of around 40% thiamin and 50% vitamin C. But depletion can be minimized through not overcooking and only using minimum amount of water. Boiling in water also leaches out minerals such as zinc and iron, but using the cooking water in gravies or sauces is a good way to help recoup the mineral goodness.
Done properly, deep frying can retain vitamin very well. The key is to use very hot oil, which gives immediate sealing so that nutrients can't escape, hot oil also minimizes the amount of fat absorbed. Use better oil for frying like rapeseed or groundnut, they are less likely to undergo oxidation at high temperatures.
Healthy Cooking Recipes,
Thank you for sharing your information! It's always good to read other points of views.
Yes - if you boil food, nutrients gets lost - but, as you wrote, they can be kept by using the water in sauces, or in soups.
When heating a lot of oils (for example in the frying pan), trans fat can be created through the chemical reaction. (Health Tip #78) Therefore it is important to check up first which oils is not altered while heated.
Great post Leo and thanks for stopping by my blog. Boiling is a great idea, although my veggies, I steam as I do anything I can get away with. Meats obviously need more cooking time so poached salmon or other fish with the right herbs as you suggested, is really tasty. Great blog. Keep it up!
Spindiva,
Thank you very much, and thank you for sharing your thoughts!
Yes you are right because oil can make you fat too aside from salt, sugar and carbo.
I tried it before with less salt and I lost weight tremendously.
Health and wealth
Edward,
Thanks for sharing your information!
Another great option is to steam foods as this retains the flavor better than boiling them.
I brought a little steamer which goes over the top of pan.
It's great for steaming meat, fish and vegetables.
Jackie,
Thanks for sharing. Steaming is another option too!
I make a delicious chicken stew that is so good over rice. (recipe is on my blog) I remove the skin which makes it even healthier. Boiled skin taste bad anyway! I love your blog!
Gina,
Thanks a lot! :)
No, boiled chicken skin is not the tastiest! And sure is better to remove it completely.
I bake my chicken. If I want the BBQ type of flavor, I bake, then broil for 10 minutes afterward.
Zaja,
Thanks for sharing that tip of yours!
